We are delighted to present our second year of collaboration with the media platform, Sayaspora.
Supported by Canadian Heritage, this transformative project addresses the significant barriers that marginalized and systematically underrepresented young women aged 18-30 in the African diaspora face concerning employment and career mobility. From September 2, 2021, to March 31, 2023, we embarked on a journey to empower these remarkable individuals and effect positive change in their lives.
"Making Your Way Up" proposes a comprehensive approach to tackle these challenges. Through this series, we engaged in conversations with twelve inspiring women who shared their experiences, shedding light on the issues arising from systemic racism within the workplace. Their important testimonies resonated deeply, igniting discussions and fostering a better understanding among employers and the public.
With the project's two-pronged response, we not only offer valuable tools to negotiate entry into key employment sectors but also develop an awareness campaign to combat systemic racism. This holistic approach aims to create a more inclusive and equitable future.
Throughout the project, we witnessed the impact firsthand. A capacity-building event brought together over 150 participants, fostering connections and providing a platform for growth. We are grateful for the commitment and passion displayed by the mentees involved, who actively embraced the opportunities provided.
As Nine Sixteen Stories, we are honored to have produced "Making Your Way Up" for Sayaspora for the second consecutive year. This ongoing partnership allows us to continue amplifying the voices and experiences of these remarkable young women.
Join us on this transformative journey as we strive to break down barriers, empower individuals, and inspire change through the power of storytelling. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter future of inclusivity and equal opportunity.
